The North Macedonian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MPB) reported a disturbing spike in domestic violence incidents, resulting in six arrests over the past 24 hours. The incidents, which spanned several cities, involved various forms of physical abuse against family members.

In Skopje, a 36-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of assaulting his 60-year-old parent. Similar reports of violence against parents were recorded in Veles, where a 34-year-old man was arrested, and in Tetovo, where a 38-year-old man was detained for assaulting his 56-year-old mother.

One particularly severe case involved a 25-year-old woman from a village in the Karbinci municipality. She reported that her husband, identified as 45-year-old Sh.M., assaulted her on May 31, 2026, and had also physically abused their minor children the previous day. The woman and her children have since been placed under the care of the Social Work Center in Štip.

Additional arrests were made by police in other regions:

  • Kumanovo: A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly assaulting the daughter of his common-law partner.
  • Veles: A second arrest was made in the city, involving a 53-year-old man suspected of assaulting his 16-year-old son.
  • Gostivar: A 42-year-old man was detained after assaulting his 38-year-old wife and causing damage to her vehicle.

Authorities continue to process these cases, emphasizing their commitment to addressing domestic abuse through rigorous legal action.
