A routine police operation in the village of Lozhan near Maliq, Albania, escalated into a deadly confrontation today. Officer Enea Mekolli, a member of the elite "Shqiponja" (Eagle) unit, was killed in the line of duty while attempting to apprehend a suspect.

Initial reports indicate that the suspect, who was armed with a Kalashnikov rifle, opened fire on the approaching officers. The intensity of the gunfire was such that it penetrated the bulletproof vest worn by Officer Mekolli, resulting in fatal injuries.

Another officer, Edison Adri, was also wounded during the exchange. He was immediately transported to the Trauma Hospital in Tirana, Albania, where he is currently undergoing surgery.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect has since been apprehended. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and the national police force, highlighting the extreme dangers officers face in high-stakes tactical operations.
