Farmers across Kosovo are facing a critical financial squeeze this season, as the promised 7 million euros in agricultural subsidies have yet to reach their accounts. Despite the completion of vital spring planting, the delay has left many producers struggling to cover the rising costs of fuel and essential agricultural inputs.
According to industry representatives, the Ministry of Agriculture has not yet opened the official application cycle. Officials cite the ongoing preparation of necessary administrative instructions as the primary reason for the hold-up, leaving the farming community in a state of uncertainty.
Agro-agriculture expert Reshat Ajvazaj warned that these delays have tangible consequences. According to Ajvazaj, timely subsidies are essential to lowering production costs and ensuring that local farmers remain competitive against cheaper imports in the regional market.
While the government has previously outlined a broader support framework for the sector, the immediate liquidity crisis for small-scale farmers remains a pressing issue. As the season progresses, the agricultural sector awaits clear timelines for the disbursement of these funds.
