Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced on June 1 that the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) has officially opened a competition for the recruitment of 44 new military cadets.

This initiative comes as part of a broader effort to modernize and expand the nation's defense capabilities. During his tenure, Kurti emphasized that the number of active soldiers has more than doubled, with over 2,700 new personnel recruited.

Strategic Investments

A central pillar of this expansion is the significant increase in defense funding. According to official reports, the government invested approximately 430 million euros in armaments between 2021 and 2025. This stands in stark contrast to the period between 2018 and 2020, when investments in military equipment were reported to be less than 4 million euros.

International Training Opportunities

The 44 successful candidates will have the opportunity to pursue military education both at the Center for University Studies in Kosovo and at prestigious military academies abroad. These partnerships include institutions in:

  • Albania
  • Turkey
  • Croatia
  • North Macedonia

Kurti noted that the high volume of interest in the KSF—evidenced by nearly 2,000 young people applying for 320 recent recruit positions—is a clear indicator of the motivation and dedication of Kosovo's youth to serve their country.
