TIRANA, Albania — The coastal region of Zvërnec remains the epicenter of civil unrest as protests against a major development project entered their sixth consecutive day. Demonstrators, concerned about the environmental impact and the preservation of the protected area, have gathered in significant numbers to voice their opposition.
Government Stance Remains Unchanged
Prime Minister Edi Rama addressed the ongoing situation with a firm tone, signaling no intention to retreat from the government's plans. Despite the growing intensity of the demonstrations, Rama emphasized that the project is vital for the region's economic development.
"The project will not be canceled, even if 500,000 protesters take to the streets," the Prime Minister declared, dismissing calls to halt the construction.
Tensions Rise Over Development
The project in Zvërnec has become a flashpoint for broader debates regarding transparency, environmental protection, and the government's development strategy. As the standoff continues, civil society groups and local residents are calling for a national dialogue, while the government maintains that the initiative is essential for long-term growth.
