Skopje — Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Muamet Hoxha, officially opened the Macedonian Energy Forum (MEF) 2026 today. This year’s edition is held as an official partner event of the "Road to COP31" initiative.
In his keynote address, Minister Hoxha highlighted that energy security and climate resilience are deeply interconnected challenges. He described the forum as a vital platform for addressing key issues and identifying concrete solutions for the regional energy transition.
"We are already feeling the effects of climate change through droughts, wildfires, heatwaves, and increased energy instability," Minister Hoxha stated. "Today, we are not just discussing strategies, but focusing on security, stability, and the quality of life for our citizens."
Hoxha reaffirmed North Macedonia’s strong commitment to the Green Agenda and European climate goals. He noted that achieving these targets requires regional cooperation, sustained investment, and collective action.
"It is time for the Western Balkans to move beyond being mere observers in climate conversations and become active participants in the solutions," the Minister added. "We need bold and responsible decisions to turn policies into investments and make the vision of a green transition a reality."
The event concluded with the Minister expressing confidence that the recommendations emerging from this year’s forum will make a significant contribution to the global climate agenda as part of the preparations for COP31.
