North Macedonia is on track to maintain its status as a regional leader in implementing EU-mandated reforms, according to Foreign Minister Timčo Mucunski. Speaking on Sitel TV, the Minister confirmed that the government is working intensely to finalize approximately 25 legislative and regulatory changes within the current reporting period.
The EU Growth Plan
The reforms are part of the country's commitment to the European Union's Growth Plan for the Western Balkans. By meeting these milestones, North Macedonia aims to unlock significant financial support from Brussels. Minister Mucunski expressed confidence that the country would again secure the largest share of funding in the region due to its proactive legislative agenda.
Call for Political Unity
During the interview, Mucunski urged the political opposition to act constructively, noting that the proposed laws are drafted in close cooperation with European institutions to benefit the state. He criticized the opposition for maintaining an inconsistent stance—publicly advocating for European integration while simultaneously obstructing specific reform-related laws in the Assembly.
"These are laws we are bringing forward at the request of European institutions, and they are essential for the good of the country," Mucunski stated. He specifically cited the opposition's reluctance to participate in working groups, including those tasked with reforming the Electoral Code in line with OSCE/ODIHR recommendations.
