SKOPJE, North Macedonia — In a recent address regarding the administrative governance of North Macedonia, Member of Parliament Mile Petrusevski has called for a fundamental shift in how the country approaches the concept of "fair representation."
Moving Beyond Quotas
Petrusevski argues that the current mechanism for ensuring ethnic representation in public institutions has become outdated. He advocates for a transition toward a model that prioritizes professional qualifications and individual merit, ensuring that public administration functions efficiently while still respecting the multi-ethnic character of the state.
"We need a modern solution for fair representation that truly aligns with European standards, focusing on competence and expertise rather than political appointments," Petrusevski stated.
Aligning with European Integration
This proposal comes as North Macedonia continues its path toward European Union membership. The MP suggests that modernizing these internal policies is crucial for improving public service delivery and rebuilding public trust in state institutions. The debate is expected to intensify as the government prepares for upcoming administrative reforms.
