European Council President Antonio Costa arrived in Skopje today for official talks with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski. The visit is part of a high-level diplomatic tour across the Western Balkans.
According to the government press office, the agenda includes a private meeting between the two leaders, followed by broader discussions between the respective government delegations. The visit will conclude with a joint press conference at the government building.
President Costa, who began his regional tour in Sarajevo yesterday, is using these meetings to emphasize the European Union's commitment to the region. "My second tour of the Western Balkans sends a clear signal: the EU’s commitment to the region is real, as is the opportunity for enlargement," Costa stated prior to his arrival.
Key discussion topics during this tour include:
- EU Enlargement: Strategies for gradual integration.
- Regional Cooperation: Strengthening ties between Balkan nations.
- Security and Stability: Addressing shared challenges.
Following his stay in Skopje, Costa is scheduled to travel to Pristina tomorrow, followed by Belgrade on Thursday. The tour will conclude in Montenegro, where he will co-chair the EU–Western Balkans Summit on June 5 in Tivat, themed "Shared Prosperity and Stability."
