European Council President António Costa arrived in Skopje this afternoon, marking a key stop in his high-level tour of the Western Balkans. He was greeted at the airport by North Macedonia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Timčo Mucunski.

Minister Mucunski noted that the visit serves as a vital opportunity to exchange views on the country’s European perspective, its ongoing reform agenda, and the critical next steps in its EU integration process.

Following his arrival, President Costa proceeded to the government building for a series of meetings with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski. The itinerary includes a private, one-on-one discussion followed by expanded talks between the government delegation and the representatives of the European Council.

The two leaders are expected to address the media in a joint press conference shortly. This visit is part of a broader diplomatic mission across the region, where Costa is engaging with local leaders to prepare for the upcoming EU-Western Balkans Summit.

The summit is scheduled to take place on June 5 in Tivat, Montenegro, where Costa will serve as co-chair. Following his stay in North Macedonia, the European Council President will travel to Pristina tomorrow, continue to Belgrade on Thursday, and conclude his tour in Montenegro.
