UNICEF has issued a stark warning regarding the global humanitarian landscape. Even if the conflict triggered by the February 28, 2026, attacks on Iran were to cease immediately, the damage to international supply chains is so profound that full recovery is not expected before 2027.

Jean-Cedric Meeus, the Chief of Global Transport and Logistics at UNICEF, highlighted that the crisis extends far beyond the Middle East. The continued blockage of the Strait of Hormuz has paralyzed a vital corridor for global trade, creating a ripple effect that is severely hindering the delivery of essential aid to children worldwide.

Logistical bottlenecks are compounding the problem. Reduced air cargo capacity and the suspension of flights to various African destinations have led to severe port congestion. This has caused a sharp rise in operational costs, with the price of transporting vaccines from India to Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo surging by 50 to 70 percent.
