On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, Ardian Gjini, leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), met with the President of the European Council, António Costa, during the latter's official visit to Pristina. The discussion focused on the current political stagnation in the country and the necessity of maintaining a clear path toward international integration.
The Cost of Political Deadlock
Gjini expressed deep concern regarding the state of Kosovo's governance, noting that the country's progress has been hindered by the prolonged absence of fully functional institutions. He highlighted that this political vacuum has resulted in a significant loss of momentum for domestic reforms and international cooperation.
"We have lost valuable time without functional institutions. It is imperative that we overcome this deadlock to serve the interests of our citizens and our state," noted Gjini during the press briefing.
Strategic Commitments
Despite the internal challenges, Gjini reaffirmed that the strategic orientation of his party, and the country at large, remains steadfast. The discussion underscored the following priorities:
- EU Integration: Accelerated efforts to align with European standards and continue the path toward EU membership.
- NATO Membership: Strengthening security partnerships and pursuing integration into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
- Institutional Stability: Resolving the current political crisis to ensure the state can effectively engage with international partners.
