In a recent appearance on Klan Kosova's Rubikon, Ramush Haradinaj, a former leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), challenged Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s moral authority. While acknowledging Kurti's sentiment that one cannot be both a "liberator and an oppressor," Haradinaj pivoted to accuse the Prime Minister of avoiding the struggle for independence during the 1998-1999 war.
Haradinaj alleged that while the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) was fighting, Kurti remained in Pristina. He further claimed that Kurti was involved with the daughter of Zoran Sokolović, who served as Serbia’s Minister of Internal Affairs during the conflict, suggesting this contradicts Kurti’s current nationalist rhetoric.
Furthermore, Haradinaj criticized Kurti’s governance, specifically accusing him of alienating the United States. He claimed that by halting major American energy projects in Kosovo, the Prime Minister is acting against the national interest.
Key Accusations:
- Wartime Conduct: Haradinaj questioned Kurti's commitment to the liberation struggle, contrasting his actions with those of the diaspora and KLA fighters.
- Foreign Policy: The AAK candidate labeled Kurti an "enemy" of U.S. interests, citing the cancellation of energy deals as evidence of poor judgment.
Haradinaj concluded by stating that true patriotism requires maintaining strong ties with the allies who secured Kosovo’s freedom, asserting that Kurti’s current policies are detrimental to the country's economic and political stability.
