President Donald Trump has addressed the recent reports regarding the breakdown of diplomatic channels with Iran, stating that his administration has received no formal communication from Tehran regarding a suspension of peace talks.
Speaking in a brief interview with NBC News, the President dismissed the reports as a likely rhetorical maneuver. "It is appropriate to say," Trump noted, while describing the Iranians as "better negotiators than fighters."
Despite the rising tensions, the President explicitly moved to temper concerns of an imminent military strike. "This does not mean we are going to go and start dropping bombs everywhere over there," he said, adding that he believes the situation has been over-discussed and that "silence would be much better."
These developments follow reports from the Iranian news agency Tasnim, which claimed that negotiators have ceased all messaging via intermediaries. Furthermore, the agency reported that Iran has taken steps to obstruct the Strait of Hormuz and is weighing the possibility of targeting the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a critical passage connecting the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean.
